Quotations


Use a comma to set off quoted elements.
My little brother asked, "Why are there clouds? What are they for?"
"I don't want to clean my room," Steven whined. "It's too much work."

Do not add a comma after the quote if it is a question or exclamation.
"Hurry up!" Mary yelled.
    



Rewrite each sentence using the correct punctuation.
1.  "I don't know Mr. President" he said nervously "who is responsible for the problem."

2.  David asked his father "How many miles per gallon does our car get?"

3.  Zig Ziglar said "Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will."

4.  "Don't walk on the wet carpet" my mother warned.

5.  "There are three more cupcakes" the teacher said. "Who wants one more?"

6.  "I can't find the piece that fits right here" she fumed. "I hate this puzzle!'

7.  When the cat meowed he seemed to be saying "I'm hungry. Feed me!"

8.  "Please put the chair under the table" she said.
