1.   Emma initially bid $4.00 for a lamp, but he had to raise his bid to $7.00 to win the lamp. He also won bids for the following items: a table for $18.00, a chair for $17.00, and a desk for $34.00. How much money did Ethan spend at the auction?


2.   We had to rush out the door to get to the movie on time. We went to see a drama about someone who becomes a young doctor. The movie started at 6:18 p.m. and ended at 8:05 p.m. How long was the movie?


3.   As Olivia was eating her sandwich, she looked out the window at all the people who walked by the cafeteria. She saw twenty-four adult men, thirty-three adult women, thirteen small boys, and twenty-five small girls. How many people did she see in all?


4.   The lock on the chest was very rusty, but we knew we should be able to get it open. Benjamin and I worked with a hammer and a screwdriver for a long time. Finally the lock fell away and we opened the chest. Inside were seven boxes of letters. There were nine letters in each box. We had a lot of work to do to find the letter with the treasure map in it! How many letters were in the chest?


5.   We were late getting home from school, so we had to rush to get ready for the party. Victoria had a hard time because she was wearing a cast on her broken arm. Finally we were ready to go at 4:10 p.m. The party started at 5:42 p.m. How much time did we have to get to the party?


6.   The company fired Jessica for coming in late all the time. She was 1 hour and 20 minutes late on Monday, 19 minutes late on Tuesday, 27 minutes late on Wednesday, 7 minutes late on Thursday, and 1 hour and 20 minutes late on Friday. How much time did Jessica waste that week by being late?
