1.   Jonathan has trained to be part of the police department's bomb squad. In his city there were fifty-five thousand, four hundred forty-nine crimes reported last year. There were forty-seven thousand, eight hundred twenty-four non-violent crimes. How many violent crimes were there?




2.   Our class planned a jubilee to welcome everyone back to school after a long summer. There were two hundred eighty-five students. Each table can seat twenty people. How many tables are needed?




3.   Isaac was measuring liquid in test tubes. He is a very methodical student, so he measured to the nearest hundredth of a milliliter. He and his partner were eager to complete the experiment. They had 5 tubes of an unknown liquid. Isaac's measurements were 3.14 ml, 1.13 ml, 2.63 ml, 2 ml, and 3.92 ml. What was the total amount of the unknown liquid that they had?




4.   Daniel sold popcorn boxes to raise money for the class trip. He wanted to transform himself into the top salesman in his class. He sold eight boxes at $4.74 per box, six boxes at $6.21 per box, and fourteen boxes at $4.85 per box. What was his sales total?




5.   The eighth grade class is going to transform their classroom into a haunted house for Halloween. They are going to put some weird things in the room. Somebody said we would even be able to see something decay! They measured their room to see how much space they have. Walls 1 and 3 are nine feet two inches each. Walls 2 and 4 are twelve feet three inches each. What is the perimeter of their room?




6.   Kevin went out on the lake in his motorboat to fish. He caught eight fish during the first hour. Without warning, a gale blew up and he had to go ashore for almost two hours. When he went back out he caught another fourteen fish. Then he began to have trouble with his motor, so he quit for the day. He gave his mother six of the fish, and then divided the remaining fish between his two aunts. How many fish did each aunt get?
