Is Trivia Useless?
By Phyllis Naegeli

1     Trivia, smivia. What does it matter? Isn't it just useless facts? Some may thing so.

2     But, it can be lots of fun. It's in books. It's in games. It's on the Internet . It's on TV. It even has its own holiday on January 4th. It may seem useless. But, not all would agree.

3     The word "trivia" comes from Latin. "Tri-" means three. "Via" means road. When you put them together the word means, "the meeting place of three roads, as in a public meeting place." In Rome, people thought these types of places were common. That's how our word "trivial," came to mean "of small importance."
