Wendy's World- Visitors from Japan
By Jane Runyon

1     Tess and Tim saw something different on Wendy's house. It was Saturday. They were going to visit their friend. On the front porch was a flag floating in the wind. It looked like a big fish. Why would Wendy's parents have a fish flag on their front porch? Then Wendy answered the front door. They were more puzzled. Wendy had on a beautiful shiny robe with a big belt. Wendy bowed very low, bending from her waist as they entered.

2     "What is going on?" questioned Tess. "You look very different. You are acting differently, too."

3     "Why is that fish on your front door?" asked Tim.

4     "I will answer all of your questions in the tatami," answered Wendy. "Please follow me."

5     Wendy led the children into another room. There was no furniture in this room. There were straw mats on the floor. Pillows sat in different places. "Please remove your shoes," instructed Wendy. Tim and Tess removed their shoes. They left them outside the room. "Please be seated," Wendy continued. Tim and Tess watched as Wendy sat down. She sat on a pillow on the floor. They found two comfy pillows and did the same.
