Hockey Girl
By Jody Williams

1     Can girls play ice hockey? Krissy Wendell does. She is on the 2006 Winter Olympic Ice Hockey Team. Krissy began skating when she was 2. Her parents say that all she ever wanted to do was play hockey. Her parents made a rule. They said that she could play hockey when she was 5. When Krissy turned 5 she said, "I can play now!" Krissy also loved baseball. She was the catcher for her team. Her team went to the Little League World Series. Krissy was the fifth girl to ever play in that game.

2     Krissy grew up in Minnesota. She was a star player. She was named "Ms. Hockey for Minnesota." She was a leader of her college team. Krissy was given an award for being a top player. Then she went to the 2002 Olympics. Her team won a silver medal. She scored one goal in that game. Krissy and her team will play in the Torino Games. They are hoping to win the gold medal. These girls CAN play hockey!
