Emergency! 9-1-1
By Tammy Scarbrough

1     As Peggy stood at the bottom of the tree in her front yard in Lincoln, Nebraska, she wondered how she would ever get her cat down. Fluffy had climbed all the way up to the top of the tree, but was too afraid to come down. Peggy tried to get a ladder, but she was afraid of climbing it and it was a long way up for an 8-year-old girl. Mom and Dad were gone and her big sister was left in charge. Of course, her sister was too busy talking on the phone to care about her problem with Fluffy.

2     Peggy had once learned in school that she could call 9-1-1 if she ever had an emergency.

3     Peggy thought to herself, "Well, I know that a car wreck and someone stealing is an emergency, but I'm not sure if I should call the fire department to get my cat out of the tree."
