Nepal - Geography
By Ekaterina Zhdanova-Redman

1     Have you ever stood inside a tall building and looked out a window? Have you climbed a tree? Maybe you've even flown in an airplane and looked down at the ground. Can you remember the feeling of being in a high place? Now imagine being in a place that is higher than anyplace else on earth. This place is a mountain in Nepal. It is called Mount Everest.

2     Nepal is a country in Asia. It is bordered by India in the south and China to the north. Its capital is a city called Kathmandu. There is a mountain range called the Himalayas in Nepal's north. This group of mountains has many of the tallest mountains in the world. The tallest of these mountains is Everest.

3     Mount Everest is many times taller than the tallest building in the world. It is about 8,850 meters, or 29,035 feet tall. Can you imagine climbing something that tall? Until about 60 years ago, no one had ever climbed Everest.
