The Ghost in Grandfather's Barn

Grandfather waved from the barn. Kelsey and Sam jumped out of the car and ran to give him a hug. Something fell out of the car, but they didn't stop to pick it up.

"Let's get the bags inside and have supper," Mom called. She opened the trunk and took out their bags. Grandfather helped her carry them to the house.

Kelsey was excited to get away from town to spend the weekend at the farm. She dashed to the house. Sam was right behind her.

After supper the kids went outside to play.

"Here, kitty, kitty!" Kelsey called. A dark shape slipped out of the barn. "Mouser!" Kelsey cried. She picked him up and rubbed her cheek on his fur.

"Where is Molly?" Sam asked. "I've looked everywhere, but I can't find her."

Mouser wiggled in Kelsey's arms. She put him down, and he trotted into the barn.

"Molly might be in the barn," she said. "Let's look inside."

It was dark in the barn. The dry smell of hay and dust tickled Kelsey's nose.

"Maybe she's in the hayloft," Sam said. He started to climb the ladder. Kelsey followed him. Then they heard a strange, swishing sound.

"Listen! Do you hear that?" Kelsey asked.

They peered around. Something was in the rafters. Kelsey's eyes got bigger. It looked like a white balloon flying along a beam!
