Scout it Out
By Beth Beutler

1     Jason looked at the large mountain ahead of him. He was with his Scout troop. They were going on a three-mile hike and would camp overnight. Although Jason was excited, he was also nervous. "I've never done this before," Jason thought to himself. "I wonder if I can make it."

2     "Ready, kids?" his Scoutmaster called. "We need to leave soon!"

3     The kids adjusted their backpacks and got ready to leave. The shrill sound of the Scoutmaster's whistle got their attention again.

4     "Okay, guys," the Scoutmaster shouted. "Let's get a move on!"

5     Jason fell into step with his buddies. The beginning of the trail was flat, which made the hike seem easy. It didn't seem too long before they had completed one mile.
