Preventing the Dangers of Mass Movements
By Patti Hutchison

1     The most dangerous mass movements happen in a flash. Rockslides, landslides and avalanches can occur without warning. They can cause property damage and loss of life.

2     Mass movements are natural. But are humans partly responsible? How can the damage be prevented?

3     Mass movements can't be stopped. Heavy rains cause mudslides. Heavy snow on a steep slope can cause an avalanche. Gravity causes huge boulders to fall off cliffs. But humans are partly responsible.
