Locking the House
By Cathy Pearl

1     Patti was leaving the house with her mom. They were going to the doctor. Patti's mom asked her to lock the door before they left.

2     "Why do we lock the house?" Patti asked.

3     "We lock it just to keep everything safe," Mom said.

4     Patti looked confused. "Why would locking the door keep everything safe?"

5     Mom laughed. "In case someone wanted to take the things in it. It is called stealing. We lock the house so no one can steal our stuff."
