I Wish I Were ...
By Jennifer Kenny

1     It was Mark's birthday. He was sitting in his room looking at a tank. He saw his pet turtle. He thought it looked lonely. He hoped his mom and dad got him another one for his birthday.

2     Mark went into the dining room. Mom and Dad were there. Grandma and Grandpa were, too. Some of his aunts, uncles, and cousins came as well.

3     Mark opened some gifts. He got great cars. He got some books. He got the new DVD he wanted. There was no turtle, though.

4     It was time for cake. When the candles were lit, Mark thought of something. He could wish to be a turtle so his pet would have a friend. Mark closed his eyes. He made the wish. He blew out the candles.
