Un giorno tranquillo per Derek

1     Derek amava trascorrere i fine settimana a casa della nonna e del nonno. Avevano un grande cortile e vivevano in cima ad una collina. I suoi cugini vivevano lì accanto. Si divertivano sempre giocando.
 
2     Adoravano giocare assieme. Lui amava urlare e strepitare mentre giocavano. Era la parte migliore del gioco. In estate giocavano sotto la vecchia quercia nel cortile anteriore. Facevano finta che fosse una nave di pirati o una navicella spaziale. In inverno, era un riparo un fortino di neve. A qualsiasi cosa giocassero facevano molto rumore.
 
3     Un giorno Derek si prese un raffreddore mentre si trovava dai suoi nonni. Si sentiva bene, ma non aveva voce. I suoi cugini erano a casa ammalati e non potevano andare fuori da lui a giocare.
 
4     Non mi divertirò affatto qui, pensò tra sé e sé. I giochi devono essere rumorosi per essere divertenti!
 
5     A pranzo, si sedettero vicino alla finestra panoramica. Proprio lì fuori c'era una mangiatoia per uccelli. Derek ed i suoi nonni mangiarono la zuppa ed i tramezzini mentre guardavano fuori dalla finestra. Videro molti tipi di uccelli venire ed andare via. Derek sorrideva mentre li osservava. Ogni uccello cercava di guadagnarsi il posto buono per mangiare alcuni semi.
