Ride for the Gold
By Mary Lynn Bushong

1     Nan sat on her pony. Her back was straight. Her eyes looked ahead into the arena.

2     Her pony, Ben, tossed his head. He did not like to stand still.

3     The riding arena was empty. Only Nan's mom was watching.

4     Nan pressed her heels on Ben's sides. The brown pony began to walk.

5     Inside the arena were some small jumps. Nan asked Ben to go faster. He began to trot. Then he began to canter.
