Open House
By Mary Lynn Bushong

"Tom, put down the book. It is time to get dressed," said Mom.

"Do I have to go to school?" asked Tom.

"Not tonight," said Mom. "We are going for an open house. You can meet your teacher. You can see your classroom. Get ready to go."

Tom was a little bit afraid. He held Mom's hand. The school seemed big.

They walked down the hall. Outside each door was a list. Mom looked at the first list. It was for room 1A.

"You are not on that list. Let us check the next one."

They looked at the next list. It was for room 1B.

"Look," said Mom. "There is your name. This is your classroom."

The door was open. There were others there, too. Tom walked in. Mom walked in.

There was a big desk. It was for the teacher. Her name was Miss Pool.

In front of it were desks. Tom counted them. There were 25 desks.

Each desk had a name on it. Tom walked around. He looked at the desks. He looked at the names.
