1 Do you like candles on your birthday cake? How would you like to have more than two hundred candles on it? It would need to be a very big cake! Maybe there should be some fire hoses ready. With that many candles, there could be a fire!
2 October 13 is a special day. It is the birthday of the U.S. Navy. In 2010, it was the Navy's 235th birthday! The Navy began on October 13, 1775. It was not the U. S. Navy then. There was no United States yet! It was called the Continental Navy.
3 At first, the Navy was small. There were only two ships. Each ship held eighty men. There were cannons and guns on each ship. The ships' job was to find British ships and stop them.
