Poking a Cake
By Kathleen W. Redman
1 "Do not play with your food!" How many of you have heard that before? I think most of you have heard it many times. Today we are going to play with our food. This is Chef Charles. Welcome to Cooking with Chef Charles. This afternoon we are going to poke a cake!
2 When I was growing up, my grandmother made a poke cake for every one of my birthdays. Now I make poke cakes for my children's birthdays. Each one of them has a favorite flavor.
3 Poke cakes are easy to make. Start with a white cake mix. Follow the directions on the box. Make two round layers. If that is too much work, you can even buy the white cake layers! You will have to put the layers in cake pans, though.
