Being a Cat
By Kathleen W. Redman

Sue has four cats. Two of the cats are black and white. Two of the cats are black and brown.

"Please come from under the stairs and eat," Sue said. "Please, please, please! I want you to eat all your food."

One of the cats ran to the dish of food. It ate almost half the food. It meowed. Sue thought it said, "This food is good."

Now the other cats came out. They rubbed Sue's arm. One went to the water dish. Another went to the food.

"That's it," Sue said. "That is what they want."

One of the black and white cats saw a pretty ball. The ball was new. Sue rolled the ball. Sue wondered if the cat would play with it.

The cat came near the ball. It hit the ball with its paws. The ball went under the piano. Then it stopped.

One black and brown cat ran under the piano. It jumped on the pretty ball. It rolled across the rug. The cats like to play with the ball, Sue thought to herself.

Soon all four cats were having so much fun. Sue laughed. She wanted to be a cat. She wondered what it would be like to be a cat. Would she be a black cat, a brown cat, or a white cat?
