Caption: A tired search dog rests as rescuers keep working around him.
"Mom," called Beth. She stared at the TV screen.
Mom came in the room.
"What do you want, Beth?" she asked.
"Look," said Beth, "that dog looks like Boomer. Why is it riding in that basket?"
Mom sat down to watch TV with Beth. Everything behind the dog was a mess. There was smoke. There were broken buildings. It looked very sad.
"What is going on, Mom?" asked Beth. "Did this just happen?"
Mom shook her head.
"No, this happened before you were born. These are pictures of searchers in New York City. This was right after the attacks of September 11, 2001."
