A Trip Down Under

Australia Day

Reading Comprehension for January 26

Emma wiggled in her seat. At first, the plane ride was fun. But it just went on and on. It was no longer fun. Emma did not like sitting still.

Finally, she looked out her window and saw land. She wanted to jump up and clap her hands!

"I see land, Mom! We are almost there," she cried.

Mom smiled. "We are all tired," she said. "We will soon get to Uncle Tom's home."

Emma stared out the window. Soon they were passing over the ground. The plane went lower. Then they landed with a small bump. The little girl and her parents were glad to stand up and walk off the plane. Emma looked out every window they passed. Then she sighed.

Uncle Tom met them. They picked up their bags and went to his car. The highway looked like the ones at home. The cars did, too. Soon they were driving past homes. Emma frowned. They looked like houses at home.

She tried to see what pets there were. All she could see were dogs and cats. Something was wrong!

"Uncle Tom," she spoke up. "Do you have any pets?"

He nodded. "We have a dog named Bindi. I reckon you will meet her when we get home."
