An Unusual Plant

A bug crawls onto the leaf of a plant. Drops of sweet juice shine on the leaves. The bug is hunting a tasty meal. Instead, the bug becomes a meal - for the plant!


This strange plant is called a Venus flytrap. It grows in some marshes in North Carolina. The soggy soil there has few minerals. Not many plants can grow in the wet, poor soil. But the Venus flytrap gets what it needs in another way. It eats insects!
