Cookies for the Neighbors

Hi Neighbor Week

Reading Comprehension for December 28

Ben was sad. He stared out the car window. They drove past houses decorated for Christmas.

Mom looked in the rearview mirror. "What's wrong?"

"I miss my friends," said Ben.

"I know it was hard to move. You'll make some friends when school starts again."

Ben looked at Mom. "Why did we have to move at Christmas time?"

"They needed your dad at his new job right away," said Mom.

Ben looked back out the window.

"I have an idea."

"What is it?" asked Ben.

"We can make cookies," said Mom.

Ben sniffed "I don't want any cookies," he said.

"They won't be for you," said Mom.

"Who will they be for?" asked Ben.

"Our neighbors," said Mom. "We can bake some cookies. Then we can take them to our neighbors. I'll bet you'll meet some kids your age."
