Sam packed the box very carefully. He taped it shut. He carried it very carefully to school with him. He put it on the teacher's desk.

"Good morning, class," Miss Marks said. "Today is Story Day. Sam is going to tell us a story this morning."

Sam stood up. He walked to the teacher's desk. He looked very proud. "My father is in the army," he said. "He is far, far away. Last week I got a letter from him. I would like to read part of it to you."

Sam opened the box. He took two sheets of paper out of the box. He unfolded them carefully. He began to read:

"Sam, I am sending you something very special with this letter. It is a kite. I want you to take very good care of it. A little boy made it. He is about your age. He lives here where I am."

Sam carefully took a small kite out of the box. It was red, yellow, and green. It was very beautiful.

"This is the kite," Sam said. He picked up the letter. He started to read again.

"The boy's name is Samir. He likes to play with the other boys. He likes to run. He is a very good climber, too. He always seems to be cheerful. He has a problem, though. Samir cannot hear. His mother said a bomb exploded close to him. The loud sound took away his hearing.
