They are stories that people never get tired of hearing. Many of them are also stories that most people never get to hear. Gerald McDermott likes to learn about those kinds of stories. Gerald McDermott has been creating art for many years. It started when he was just a kid. He took his first art class when he was four years old. He loved it. He kept learning more. He even studied art in college. Before Gerald McDermott was a writer, he made movies. They were short cartoons that told the stories that he loved. He wanted to turn the movies into books. The first book that he finished was Anansi the Spider. It is a story from Africa. It won an award. It was named as a Caldecott Honor Book. It was one of the best picture books for kids that year.
