Jell-O Girl

Jell-O Week

Reading Comprehension for February 15

"Mama, don't you think I look like the Jell-O Girl?" Betty Card asked.

Betty's mother moved about the kitchen. She was making dinner. A white apron kept her dress clean as she worked. Betty held out the Jell-O box. Her mother peered at the picture.

"Maybe you do look like her a little," Mrs. Card said. "Now it's time to stop admiring the box. You need to make the gelatin!" She turned to the counter and began to open canning jars. One held stewed tomatoes. Another held corn. A third held green beans.

Betty set a pot of water on the stove. She waited for it to boil. "Did you make Jell-O when you were a little girl?" Betty asked, reaching for a stirring spoon.
