My Hands Aren't Dirty

"But, Mom," Tony said, "my hands aren't dirty!"

It was the same thing Tony said every time his mother told him to wash his hands. Tony never thought his hands were dirty.

"Tony, you have to wash your hands before you eat. You don't want to get dirt in your food, do you?"

"But, Mom, my hands aren't dirty!"

"What is that black stuff under your fingernails? Is that dirt, Tony?" his mother asked.

"No, it must be black paint. My hands aren't dirty."

"Tony, you might get sick if you eat with dirty hands," his mother said.

"But, Mom, my hands aren't dirty! I already told you that."
