Be Kind to Humankind Day

Reading Comprehension for August 25

"Please come to order," Chip Cricket said.

All the insects were talking at one time.

"But they are mean to us. Why should we be kind to them?" Buster Bee asked.

"Some of them are kind," Betty Butterfly said. "It rained yesterday. My wings got wet. I could not fly. A little girl let me climb on her finger. She put me on a bush. My wings could dry there. No one would step on me."

All the insects started talking again.

"Please talk one at a time," Chip Cricket said.

Billy Bee raised his wing.

"Listen to Billy," Chip said.

"Someone planted flowers with sweet stuff in them," he buzzed. "There is a lot of food for me. They do not chase me away."

"A man found me in his house," Bob Beetle said. "He took me outside. He put me on a plant. He did not hurt me."

"The people in the yellow house are kind," Dora and Dan Dragonfly said. "They made a waterfall. Now we can get lots of water."
