The Great Can Stomp

"Hi, Mom! I'm home!" Jamie yelled as he ran through the door. "I need a big trash bag and some gloves." Jamie skidded to a stop in the kitchen.

"Don't you want to sit down for a snack first?" Mrs. Teal asked.

"No, Mom. I don't have time," Jamie said. "I'm in a hurry. I'm meeting Dylan and Jonah in five minutes. We are going together!"

"Going where?" his mother asked.

"To the city park," Jamie said. "We are going to pick up cans. Tomorrow is Stomp a Can Day. Our class is going to win the Great Can Stomp."

"What is that?" his mother asked.

"All the classes bring empty cans to school. Then we stomp them flat. Our teachers count the cans. The class that has the most cans wins the Great Can Stomp."

"What do you do with all those flat cans?"

"Mr. Anderson takes them to the recycling center. It helps our city look better. The metal can be used again."

Mrs. Teal got a big trash bag and a pair of gloves for Jamie. She handed them to him, and he was out the door in a flash.
