The Green-Eyed Monster

"Mr. Lockman! Mr. Lockman!" John shouted.

Mr. Lockman turned around and found John at the other end of the hall. He waited for John to catch up with him.

"What's up, John?" Mr. Lockman asked.

"I could just punch that Darion right in the eye!" John said.

"Wow! Why are you feeling so violent?" Mr. Lockman asked.

"I don't know. Well, I do know, but I don't want to tell you. Well, maybe I could tell you if you promise you won't laugh at me. Are you sure you can keep your word? I mean, it would be awful if you told anyone and . . ."

"Whoa, John. Slow down a little bit. Take a deep breath. Of course I won't laugh at you. I never tell anyone what someone else says to me. And, yes, I do keep my word. Now what is it that is bad enough to make you want to punch Darion?" Mr. Lockman looked very serious.

"Oh." John took a deep breath. "Well, you know Michele. I really like her a lot. She is pretty and she talks to me and she is nice to me. I really like her."

"I understand," Mr. Lockman smiled. "Michele is special to you."

"Yes, that's right," John said. "We have been friends for a long time, but she is better than just a friend."

"I've got it," Mr. Lockman said. "What does this have to do with Darion?"

John's face turned a little bit red. "That stupid Darion! He decided to be nice to Michele. I know he did it just to make me mad!"

"Did what?"
