The "doptid" Dog

National Adoption Month

Reading Comprehension for November 6

"Mark, what does 'doptid' mean?" Ricky asked his brother.

"I do not think that is a word. What word did you say?"

"Doptid. Mary has a new puppy. He is a white and black doptid dog. He is cute. I want one, too."

"I don't know, Ricky. Now I am busy. Go ask David. Maybe he knows."

Ricky found his other brother. He was doing homework.

"David, Mary has a white doptid dog. He has black spots. Can I have a black and white doptid dog, too?"

"Stop being silly, Ricky. There is no such thing as a doptid dog. What kind of word is that, anyway?"

"I am not being silly," Ricky said.
