"Adding Up to 20 With Black and White Three-Piece Puzzles" is a learning center that includes 33 puzzle pieces. Students must arrange the 33 pieces in sets of three that make 20, like 5 + 15 = 20 and 11 + 9 = 20. Each puzzle depicts a cute dachshund dressed up in a different outfit, like a rock star or a scuba diver. This makes completing each puzzle more fun, but it also helps students double-check their work to make sure each of the pieces of their puzzle matches.

The center also includes one practice worksheet. The top features rows of dog bones. Students are asked to color 20 of the bones. Below, students match to make 20. Six numbers are displayed above that correspond to the 6 problems shown down below. They have to fill in one of the addends or the answer in each problem. For example, to solve ___ + 9 = 20, students would write the number 11 on the line and cross out the 11 above.

This center includes teacher directions, as well as the bin label and folder cover. All teachers have to do is cut out all the pieces and assemble the bin!

This center gives students the ability to practice important math facts up to 20, encouraging them to recognize all the ways to make 20 by sight. Because they're making puzzles, it also supports critical thinking and problem-solving.
