This learning center is designed to give students practice organizing and recognizing numbers 0 to 10. It helps them build number sense concepts, which will make completing higher-level math problems easier as they get older.

Students take a set of cards and a student page. The instructions tell students to lay out all the cards on their desk, suggesting that they put them in order. Then, they answer the questions on the student page, choosing a number from the pile to answer each one. For example, one question asks which one is the smallest number, while another question asks which number is one more than another card.

Not all numbers from 0 to 10 are displayed on the cards. For example, there are no cards with the number 1. In addition, some numbers repeat. For example, three different cards display the number 9. This gives students a challenge when ordering and choosing numbers, which supports the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The learning center includes a student instruction page that you can attach to the outside of the folder. Teacher instructions show where to place student pages and cards, so setup is easy.
