This beginning fractions learning center gives young students the ability to visualize fractions with a part/whole activity. This helps students understand, in a hands-on way, the relationship between the numerator and denominator while showing students how pieces count up to a whole.
Students start by choosing a fraction mat and corresponding food parts. For example, they could choose two halves of a cereal bowl or a pizza to put on the mat.
There are three fraction mats that feature halves, quarters, and thirds. 27 total food pieces feature pizza, pie, and cereal. Each piece is clearly labeled with dashed lines and corresponding numerical fractions, making them easy to cut apart and identify. There is also an accompanying worksheet that asks students to color each numerator in halves, quarters, and thirds to make the whole. For example, they color 1/3 in one circle, 2/3 in the next circle, and 3/3 in the final circle.
This learning center includes:
* A bin label
* A title page that can be placed on a folder
* Three fraction mats
* One worksheet
* 27 food parts with dashed lines for easy cutting
