This worksheet is designed to help students practice calculating the surface area of various prisms. Students will assist a fictional bakery, Pi Squared Bakery, by determining the surface area of three rectangular prism boxes and one triangular prism box. Additionally, they will design a cake box on a grid and calculate its surface area.

Calculating the surface area of a box means figuring out how much space covers the outside of the whole box. You can explain it to your students, like if they wanted to wrap a box with paper. Each side of the box is a rectangle, and by adding up the area of all the sides, you get the total surface area. Knowing the surface area helps you determine how much material you need to cover the box.
