"Comparing Cookie Recipes: A Greater Than and Less Than Challenge" is a learning center that encourages real-life learning by asking students to compare the ingredients in different recipes. They choose 2 recipe cards from the 8 that are included in the learning center. Then, they fill in the 2 compare sheets.

Each sheet provides a spot where students can write the number of both recipe sheets at the top. Then they list ingredients with blanks where they can write the numbers. For example, students might compare the number of grams in baking soda with spots to write the number of grams in one recipe and another spot to write the number of grams in the other recipe. There is a circle in the middle where they can write the correct greater than, less than, or equal symbol. This activity helps students develop a deeper understanding of numbers and how they compare to each other, which can help with other skills, like estimating and pattern recognition.

This learning center also includes an optional activity where students can mix a pretend baking recipe! Students collect materials that represent the baking ingredients according to what you choose. For example, you might decide to place pom-pom balls in a box to represent sugar and rice in another box to represent flour. Students have to measure the proper amounts and follow the directions to make the recipe.
