Students learn addition by adding two numbers together, but they can experience a more in-depth understanding of addition when you give them the answer and ask them to fill in the addends instead. This encourages problem-solving and builds an early foundation for future multiplication skills.

The learning center comes with 12 cards that feature an equation without the answer. Both numbers in the equation are single digits, where at least one addend is a 1, 2, or 3, so answers are all less than 10.

Students take a student page that features equations with blanks. All equations are grouped together according to their answer. For example, there are two cards with a sum of 8, so ___ + ___ = 8 is listed in the box twice. There are boxes for sums from 2 to 9. Students grab a card and write the equation in the correct box on the worksheet.

A clear instruction page with images is included. It should be attached to the outside of the folder so students can read the directions and complete the learning center independently. The center includes a cover page and teacher directions that show what the outside and inside of the folder should look like.
