The worksheet "Fill in the Blanks in a Short Passage" features two or three passages on each page. Passages include a few related sentences, but each one contains blanks. Students must fill in the blank with the correct word.
There is a word bank at the top of the page where students choose the words that go in the blanks, but they have to look carefully! The word bank has more words than there are blanks, and many words are misspelled. Students can look through the words and cross out the misspelled ones, then cross out the words they use in each blank below.
Fill-in-the-blank activities can be an effective and engaging way for students to learn or review important concepts. They are a great way for students to practice vocabulary and spelling, especially if you find creative new ways for them to tackle traditional fill-in-the-blank worksheets.
For example, students can practice vocabulary words by filling the words in a word bank into the blanks in a passage with words from a word bank. You can increase vocabulary skills by including more words in the word bank than there are blanks in the passage. You can also include words that are misspelled so students get extra spelling practice.
It can also be fun to ask students to practice vocabulary or spelling words by writing their own passages with blanks. Then they can exchange their passages with other students, and their classmate can fill in the blanks.
