"Find the Hidden Words: Word Search Mazes and Letter Loops" is a fun puzzle-based worksheet that invites students to practice their spelling skills to find the hidden words.

The first six puzzles on each page feature mini word search puzzles, but instead of finding words diagonally, horizontally, or vertically, students draw a line that can go up, down, left, or right from letter to letter, making it look more like a maze than a word search. Each puzzle contains two words, each of which has a bolded first letter.

There are also shaded lines between letters in each puzzle. Some spell the entire word, and students follow the line to find out what it is. Others only provide the first few letters, and students have to finish the line to complete the word. Once they have found both words, they write them on the lines below.

The last three puzzles feature letters in squares arranged around a loop. Students have to start with one letter and move right or left all the way around the loop, using all the letters, to find the hidden word. Then, they write it below.

Puzzles and brainteasers can be an effective way for students to practice spelling skills while problem-solving and thinking critically. Traditional puzzles, like word searches and crosswords, can be an easy place to start, but you can challenge your students in new ways with creative puzzles they may not have seen before.

For example, instead of a traditional word search where they draw a straight line, have students write a line to find the words, but they can move up, down, left, or right between each letter. Students can find the hidden word in loops of letters where they don't know which letter goes first. Ladder puzzles ask students to change just one letter in a word at a time according to the hints. If you really want to challenge students, have them create their own cryptograms and exchange them with a partner.
