There are two ways for students to practice 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication in this learning center.
The first activity asks students to find the output. They choose one of the cards that is labeled "Rule" and one of the cards labeled "In." They place them on the input/output mat. They solve the multiplication problems by writing the answer on the "Out" line with a dry-erase marker.
The second activity asks students to find the rule. They choose a "find the rule" card and figure out which rule the four multiplication problems share. They write the rule at the top with a dry-erase marker.
An accountability worksheet is included for extra practice. The worksheet also enables you to double-check their work.
This learning center invites students to think more deeply about multiplication by not just asking them to find the answers, but also to identify which factor is missing, which supports algebraic thinking.
