This Interactive Rhyming Words Adventure Learning Center helps students build phonological awareness. Activities feature a range of ability levels, allowing students to review easier rhyming concepts and tackle more challenging tasks. This also gives teachers the ability to identify which students are ready for more challenging work and which ones need more support.
Rhyming activities include:
* Placing two rhyming picture cards together as a pair.
* Look at a group of words and place a cancel card over the word that does not rhyme. There's room at the bottom of this worksheet for students to make their own rhyming set of words complete with one word that doesn't rhyme.
* Find four word cards that rhyme and write them together as a set.
* Place a beginning letter chip and ending letter chip together to make rhyming words. This is designed as a team activity where students can see which team makes the most rhyming words.
* Find four rhyming words in a scene that they can color. Then, draw their own scene using the four rhyming words that are listed in the directions.
This center includes teacher directions on how to set up the folder, as well as a general instruction card for students that instructs them to complete each page as directed and have a teacher or a designated student double-check their work. Instructions on each page include information to help students complete each activity independently. For example, one page asks students to notice how some rhyming words have differently spelled endings, while another invites students to write on the back of the page if they run out of space.
