Being able to visualize what a fraction looks like as a visual model is an important skill that can help students understand fractions better, especially as they begin adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions. This learning center supports the development of visualization skills by asking students to match a written fraction with its visual model.

Students pull a fraction card from the pile. Then, they search through the picture cards to find the visual model that matches the fraction. They must find the correct model on the worksheet, write the fraction, and color the picture to show the visual model.

There are lines where students write the card number of the fraction and the picture card, so it's easy for a teacher or another student to check their work. All fractions have a denominator of 10, but the visual models are arranged differently. For example, some models display 10 vertical strips, while another features a square with five rectangles on the top and bottom.

There are directions you can attach to the folder so students know how to complete the learning center. Instructions are also included on the worksheet page.
