It's important for students to understand the meaning of words, but it's also important for them to understand words in relation to others. This learning center aims to do that by having students match and write two words that are antonyms.
Students start by grabbing the set of cards, each of which features one word. They pull one of the cards and write the word on the student page. Then, they search through the remaining cards to find the antonym.
Students can use their existing knowledge to find the correct antonyms, but they can also use the process of elimination, matching the words they are confident in before matching the ones they are unsure about. This supports problem-solving skills in addition to vocabulary development.
