This hands-on learning center asks students to measure the area of shapes by filling them with math cubes. Students choose one of 14 area cards that feature a variety of ice-themed squares, rectangles, and other straight-sided shapes. Students place the math cubes in the lines and write the area on the line.

Students can fill in the area on the area card, or they can fill out the accountability worksheet. It features blank sets of squares that students can color to represent the shape on the area card. Then, they write the area on the line.

Learning area is easier when students can visualize the area they're measuring. This activity helps them see how area is measured before introducing how to use multiplication to find the area of shapes.
