This station, called "Pick a Card and Write the Middle of a Story," comes with 14 unique story starters that contain the beginning and the end of a story. Students choose one they would like to write about. They write the number of the card they chose on their worksheet. Then, they write about what happens in the middle of the story on the lines. When they're done, there is space at the top of the first page where they can draw a cover picture for their story.
This center includes teacher instructions on setting up the folder with images, as well as student instructions that tell students what to do first, second, third, and fourth.
This station is a great way for students to work on building action into their stories. It also helps them link concepts from the beginning and end to create a cohesive story. As students work on building different skills, you can modify the learning center to encourage those skills. For example, you might ask students to incorporate the five senses, circle the pronouns they use, or utilize interesting punctuation, like exclamation marks.
