The learning center titled "Save the Penguins: Use 3- and 4-Digit Division to Match the Penguins to Icebergs" features quotient cards with icebergs and division cards with penguins. Students must solve the equations on the penguin cards and then match them up to the iceberg cards. There are 10 iceberg cards with 3-digit quotients and 10 iceberg cards with 4-digit quotients. Penguin cards are divided into sets of 20 division problems, which means each iceberg card matches with 4 penguin cards.
The center also comes with two accountability worksheets. Students can fill out the division problems that match each iceberg as they work. You also have the option of reducing the number of penguin cards that match each iceberg for early learners, so that only one penguin card matches each iceberg card. You can add additional penguins as students become more proficient. It includes an answer key so a teacher or a partner can double-check their work.
This learning center helps students practice 3- and 4-digit division without remainders. It also helps them see the relationship between different division problems that have the same answer, which helps them build number sense.
