This learning center is designed for independent learning. It combines addition and problem-solving skills into a puzzle-style activity that supports fact families up to 20.

Students choose one search and fill page. Then, they fill in plus and equal signs in the empty boxes to complete all of the true equations they can find. Empty boxes are located between numbers both horizontally and vertically for an extra challenge. If you want to reinforce fact families and addition practice, have students record the equations they find on the equations page. Answer keys are also provided for all four search and fill pages so you can check student work, or they can check their work independently.

You can modify this learning center by having students see how many equations they can find within a certain timeframe, or you can encourage them to find a certain number of equations. For example, they could find 6 equations before they look at the answer key. For extra practice, they could fill in some of the answers they missed from the answer key on the puzzle page and also fill them in on the recording equations page.
