This learning center helps students solve two-digit addition problems with fun four-piece puzzles. One piece of each puzzle features:

* A two-digit addition problem, like 34 + 16

* The problem broken down by place value, like 30 + 10 + 4 + 6

* The problem shown using base-10 blocks

* The answer

The materials include five puzzles that require students to regroup and five puzzles that don't require regrouping for a total of ten puzzles.

Each puzzle features a similar basketball scene with different characters, providing an extra challenge. When all the puzzles are included in the learning center, students have to think carefully about which pieces go together. You could ask students to write down each problem on a piece of paper as they complete the puzzles so you can check their work.

If you want to differentiate instruction, include only the puzzles that don't need to be regrouped or the puzzles that do require regrouping. You could also include just two or three puzzles to reduce the number of pieces students have to consider.
