Before the eighteenth century, styles of architecture were created for palaces, castles, cathedrals, and other large, impressive buildings. Beginning with the Georgian style of the eighteenth century, however, architectural style could be seen in the homes of upper and middle class families as well. By the Victorian period in the nineteenth century, even more homes were being built with an eye toward a particular style.

Georgian architecture was a handsome style. It was very elegant and balanced with a classic look. It was popular in England and in other English speaking countries, including the United States.
