Reading Comprehension for September 14

Do you know anyone who studies the functions of living creatures and their parts? A person with that career is a physiologist.

One of the most famous physiologists in history was a man named Ivan Petrovich Pavlov. He was born in September 1849 in Ryazan, Russia. His father was the village priest. He was educated in the church school and the theological seminary in the village.

Ivan Pavlov was on his way to a religious career when he began to be interested in new ideas in science. He decided to stop his religious training. In 1870, he began to study natural science, and he developed a real interest in physiology.

Ivan's decision paid off - for the scientific world, at least. He quickly won an award for his work in science with another student. They studied the functioning of the pancreatic nerves. By 1875, he received a degree in Natural Sciences after doing remarkably well.
